Public input meetings for Knox County’s new development ordinances will be Sept 23 and Sept 25th. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE.

After these meetings, the next engagement will be in May, when the draft is available. If you want to help shape what will be in that draft, this is the time to do it. See the list of meetings at the end of this message. Calendar invites are also included. You only need to attend one of these meetings; the material is the same, so attend the one most convenient for you. There is a virtual option on Thurs Sept 25th as well (per-registration required)

Advance Knox created a new Comprehensive Plan for the county. This phase will create a Unified Development Ordinance, or “UDO”.  The new UDO will combine multiple documents from zoning ordinance, subdivision regulations, stormwater management and other regulations, be modern, and simpler to navigate and understand.

These are the regulations that impact things like lot sizes, landscaping requirements, traffic and street design, stormwater detention, permitted signs, and the uses in each zone.

Please attend one of these session. Please tell friends, neighbors, church members, club members – tell everybody!

For pre-read for these meetings, refer to the KCPA Policy Statement for new Knox County UDO. It outlines issues and improvements that KCPA’s Advocates hope to see in the upcoming UDO. KCPA leadership had a productive and positive meeting with county staff in August about the process and some of the issues. There are improvements compared with the past round – this public input was announced with more lead-time, and there will be public meetings to take feedback on the initial draft and address that before the UDO is submitted for adoption.
